Stop Asking: "What's Wrong With Me?"...

Stop Asking “What’s Wrong With Me?”

…when you struggle to stick to a habit or Resolution.
Here’s what to do instead…

Happy new-month everyone! I come bearing encouragement and experiments!

If you’re experiencing self-frustration over resolutions you set in Jan. that are either wavering, or paused completely, this is for you…

Maybe you are feeling more fatigued and less motivated than you anticipated/hoped in the optimism of a new year..  You’re not alone. (January kicked my butt!!)

A lot of us get down on ourselves when we can't stick with things. We create high hopes and expectations and judge our own character when we feel we fall short. We forget that creating the habit is a PROCESS and a practice all its own.

But did you know:

the more we beat ourselves up today, the less likely we are to show up tomorrow?!

My challenge to you this week is: Instead of thinking What's wrong with ME?” ask yourself What's wrong with my STRATEGY?"

Treat the implementation of your habit as an experiment!

In experiments all “failures” are information gradually pointing you toward the solution. If something isn’t working, that’s just data telling you it’s time to test a new variable.

Here's some variables/strategies you can experiment with this week:

-Can you make your resolution smaller?

-Can you aim for a different time of day to do your habit?

-Can you write down when/where/how you will show up tomorrow?

-Can you tell a friend what you're working on and ask them to check in with you? (I’m happy to be this person!)

Can you pair it with something you already do everyday, or something you enjoy doing?

-Can you do a 1-time activity to get the ball rolling? (sign up for a class, join the gym, schedule an appointment, hire a coach, buy a piece of equipment, join a community, create automations?)

Start with just one! Some may work, some won't! Some may work only for a little while before you have to change it up again.

If something doesn't work, say “How Fascinating!” (to quote Ben Zander), or “Interesting data!” And simply re-tweak or try something else next week. Not everything works for everyone. Explore what works for YOU.

“An attitude is a way of thinking. A Practice is a way of doing, trying, failing, and trying again.” (Brené Brown)
